WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2023) - Rollins starter
Jack Haynes dazzled in his first start on varsity, tossing seven scoreless innings in the Tars' 12-0 rout of Notre Dame College. Rollins now stands at 14-4 on the season.
Haynes, a freshman, was called up from the JV team by coach
Jon Sjogren to work some innings during the busy Baseball Week. Things could not have gone any better for the Massachusetts native. Across seven innings of work, he allowed only one hit, a single), walked one, and struck out five. He was efficient as well, using just 83 pitches to complete his seven frames.
He had more than enough run support from his offense. The Tars exploded for five runs in the first inning.
Jack Herring, batting cleanup, lined a triple down the right field line that brought in
Joey Rubin,
Adams Torres, and
Jeslyn Whitehead.
Jorge Ramirez added a two-run double moments later that scored
Cameron Meehan and Herring to make it 5-0.
Rollins added a sixth run in the second on a sac fly from Whitehead that brought home Rubin.
The Tars had another rally int he fifth inning that included four hits.
Parker Smith obliterated a ball over the center field fence to plate himself and Ramirez. After a pitching change, Torres drove in
Drew Howard on a single, followed by an RBI groundout from Whitehead that brought in Rubin for the third time on the day, making it a 10-0 ballgame.
The final runs came in the sixth when Smith connected on his second dinger of the game, this time launching a missile to right-center, allowing he and
Andres Antonini to score.Â
Five Tars hitters had multiple hits in this one, led by three from Torres. Rubin scored three times while Smith drove in four.Â
Rollins will be back in action tomorrow, March 10, when they host Minnesota-Crookston at 3:00 pm.
