Tars Earn Fourth Straight Sweep

Rollins won all nine matches (three doubles, six singles) on Monday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2023) – The Rollins men's tennis team got its fourth consecutive 7-0 sweep on Monday, besting visiting West Liberty at Copeland Stadium. The Tars are now 8-1 on the year, while the Hilltoppers fall to 4-1.

COACH'S QUOTES:
"West Liberty put up a solid effort across the board today," Head Coach Jay Friedman said. "We simply took advantage of being at home today and rolled on. We look forward to Wednesday's battle under the lights with the historic program from Ferris State."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
  • Guillermo Castaneda and reigning SSC Player of the Week Efe Comu made quick work of Roberto Esquivel and Derek Roehner at number one doubles, 6-1.
  • The Tars clinched the doubles point when Luke Quaynor and Richard Stoiberer finished off Joao Benvenutti and Nevio Dux on court two, 6-4.
  • Mikkel Baumann and Moritz Stenzer made it a clean doubles sweep with a 7-5 victory over Moritz Erpel and Gianluca Gerndt on court three.
Singles
  • Stenzer got the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Roehner on court five.
  • Charlie Putrino made it 3-0 Tars with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Equivel at position six.
  • Quaynor clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court two, knocking off Dux.
  • Castaneda breezed past Gerndt on court three, 6-0, 6-0, while Stoiberer and Comu both earned straight-sets wins on courts four and one, respectively, to finish off the 7-0 sweep.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will host No. 23 Ferris State on Wednesday in a match slated for 6:30 p.m.
