BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 11, 2023) - Rollins suffered their fourth consecutive loss on Saturday, this time falling to the Lynn Fighting Knights by a score of 58-45. The Tars now stand at 8-15 on the year, with a 3-13 record in SSC play.
After Lynn jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter,
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez nailed a three to tie the score at 11. On their next possession, Rollins took their first lead of the game with a
Silvia Lasarte turnaround jumper to make the score 13-11. The lead would grow to 15-11 before made a wil run in the final four minutes of the period, outscoring the Tars 14-1 which led to a 25-16 lead at the horn.Â
Neither team was overly impressive in the second quarter. It took four minutes of game action for a point to be added to the board, coming on a Knights free throw. Lasarte and
Emily Dogbatse were the only Rollins players who managed to score in the second, as the Tars trailed 37-20 at the break. The difference in three-point shooting was significant. Rollins only hit three of 19 attempts, while the Knights managed to hit eight in 25 tries.Â
Rollins played inspired basketball in the third quarter. They put up a game-high 18 points on offense, and limited the Fighting Knights to only seven points on 2-14 (14%) shooting.
Erin Leigh and
Grace Alfieri each posted five points in the quarter, and the Tars shot the ball well as a team. knocking down three three-pointers. By the end of the third, they were down only six points at 44-38.Â
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the final frame with an Alfieri three keeping it a six-point game with 5:14 to play. Unfortunately, those would be the final points of the day for Rollins as they would end up falling by a score of 58-45.Â
Alfieri led the Tars in scoring with 14 points an added seven rebounds. Lasarte chipped in ten points and eighth boards.Â
The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday at home as they host the Saint Leo Lions at Warden Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.Â
