LONGWOOD, Fla. (February 11, 2023) - The Rollins Tars suffered their first losses of the season on Saturday, falling 4-1 to West Florida and 4-3 in extra innings to Wingate. The Tars now stand at 3-2 overall on the year.

The Argonauts jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring twice on two hits, a Rollins fielding error, and a hit batter. In the top of the second,
Ashley Worrell led off the inning with her second home run of the season to split the lead in half.
In the third inning, West Florida secured their win by adding a pair of insurance runs with three straight singles to start the inning.
The Tars offense just wasn't clicking in the first game of the day. In the final four innings, they failed to put more than two runners on base in any inning, and finished the game with only two hits.Â
Worrell took the loss with a final line of six innings, eight hits, four runs, and five strikeouts.

Rollins once again fell behind early in their second game of the day. Wingate scored a run in the first on a sac fly, and then added a second run in the second with an RBI single.Â
Pitcher
Emily MacMullen would limit the damage for the next few innings, allowing the Tars offense to bring the team back. In the fifth,
Jaden Walker singled, and was moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt.
Brie Michelli then brought her in on a sac fly to make it 2-1.Â
After MacMullen stranded a pair of runners in the fifth, Rollins tied the game up in the sixth when Worrell brought in
Grace Germer on a sac fly.
The game would go to extra innings. With
Kaeli Zahradnik starting on second base, she was moved to third on an
Ashley Troutman flyout. That was followed by
Grace Germer single through the left side which scored Zahradnik and gave Rollins the lead.Â
Wingate loaded the bases with their courtesy runner, a walk, and a single. With one out, a ball was sent to shortstop. A fielding error let the ball roll free, and brought in two Bulldogs to give Wingate the 4-3 win.Â
Germer recorded three hits, a run, and an RBI in the loss.Â
Rollins will be back at it on Sunday when they play Wingate and Auburn Montgomery at Soldier's Creek Park in Longwood.Â
