WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 1, 2023) - The Tampa Spartans showed why they are considered one of the main contenders for a national championship with their 71-63 win over Rollins on Wednesday. Rollins falls to 8-12 on the year, with a 3-10 record in SSC play. Tampa improves to 19-1 on the season.
Grace Alfieri started Rollins on the right path with a three-pointer as the first points of the game, but Rollins then failed to convert for over five minutes of game time. The streak was broken by a
Lucy Leen triple, making the score 11-6.

Shannelle Heredia all added makes as well, but the Spartans held a 25-12 led after one.
Heredia stayed hot with a couple of makes in the second, followed by a three from
Claire Erickson. Unfortunately, Tampa was on fire from the field, knocking down 53% of their shots in the quarter, and they carried a 43-25 lead into half.
The third quarter was another tough one for the offense as they struggled to get shots to drop. They led by as many as 24 in the quarter, and ended the third up 61-38.
The theme of the season for Rollins has been a never-give-up attitude. They displayed this attribute once more in thr fourth, outscoring the Spartans 25-10 in the final frame. Heredia was responsible for eight of the Tars' points, and finished the game with a career-high 14 points. Despite the late run, Tampa's lead proved insurmountable and they took a 71-63 win.
Next up for the Tars is a home matchup with Barry on Saturday, February 4 at Warden Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
