WINTER PARK, Fla. (Dec. 15, 2023) – The Rollins women's basketball team pushed its win streak to five straight games on Friday with a 58-46 defeat of the visiting Flagler Saints. The Tars are now 6-3 on the season, while Flagler drops to 4-4. The win also avenges Rollins' season-opening loss at Flagler back on November 15.
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez led the Tars with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while
Emily McIntosh chipped in with nine points.
Lucy Leen pulled down a game-high 11 boards to go along with six points, while
Claire Erickson and
Maddie Dillinger each tallied seven points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Both teams started out cold from the floor, with the first points of the game coming at the 6:38 mark of the first quarter, scored by Flagler to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
- The Saints built an 8-3 advantage before back-to-back threes from McIntosh and Grace Alfieri put the Tars up, 9-8.
- A pair of free throws in the final minute of the period gave Flagler a 10-9 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
- The Saints scored the first six points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 16-9, but Rollins battled back, going on a 7-0 spurt to tie the game at 18 at the midway point of the quarter.
- Irizarry-Perez hit a jumper with 3:43 on the clock to tie the game at 22, and less than a minute later she knocked down two free throws to push the Tars ahead, 24-22.
- Rollins closed the half on a 10-2 run, eventually earning a 30-24 halftime advantage.
Third Quarter
- The Tars used a 17-2 burst over the course of about seven minutes in the third to stretch their lead to 47-28.
- Flagler scored seven straight points to trim the deficit to 12, but Irizarry-Perez connected on two late free throws to give the Blue and Gold a commanding 49-35 edge heading to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Rollins scored the first eight points in the fourth, building its lead to as many as 22 points at 57-35 with 4:35 to play.
- The Saints couldn't muster a comeback as the Tars easily held on for a 58-46 win.

The Tars will return to action on Saturday, December 30 when they host Saint Leo in an SSC doubleheader inside Warden Arena. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
