Tars Shutout Lions to Wrap Regular Season

Rollins defeated Saint Leo 4-0 on Friday evening

SAINT LEO, Fla. (November 3, 2023) - Men's soccer wrapped up their regular season in style, posting a 4-0 win on the road at Saint Leo on Friday evening. The win moves Rollins to 8-4-3 overall and 5-4-1 in the SSC. The Lions end their season at 4-9-4, 2-6-2 SSC.

The first Rollins strike came in the 26th minute. After a Lions turnover, Kaden Foreman ripped a cross towards the net that deflected off a Saint Leo defender. A streaking Patrick Horan was able to collect the loose ball, turn quickly, and go top shelf with his left foot to put the Tars up 1-0.

Right before the half, the Tars struck again. In the last minute of play, Rian Barrett took a chance, but his shot hit the crossbar, hit the ground, and ended up in front of Hayden Smethurst. The junior calmly tapped in the rebound for a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.

Rollins controlled the action for most of the game, leading to a slow start in the second half. About twenty minutes in, a strong push resulted in a free kick from deep inside the Lions zone. Nazar Tsaruk lined it up, and sent a soaring cross past the goal. Waiting on the far end was Hayden Judge, who smacked a header into the net for his third brace of the season.

Just five minutes later, the scoring would wrap up when Jorge Lameiras set up the offense with his blazing speed. After creating separation, he sent a cross to Elvar Kristjansson, who passed on a shot to feed Pedro Lameiras. The younger brother had his shot saved by the Lions' keeper, but Tsaruk was right there to punch in the rebound to make the final of 4-0.

The offense in this game stole the headlines, but the defense was utterly tenacious, allowing just one shot on goal (saved by Max Walker) while also defending Saint Leo's lone corner.

The win locks the Tars into the #3 seed in the SSC tournament. They will host the #6 Florida Southern Mocs on Monday, November 6 in Winter Park.
