CLEVELAND, Tenn. (November 17, 2023) - Women's soccer saw their season come to a close on Friday with a 3-0 loss to the Florida Tech Panthers in the first round of the NCAA South Regional. The Tars wrap up their season with a 9-7-3 record, while the #3 seed Panthers improve to 14-2-3.
Florida Tech commanded the game in the first half with a non-stop attack against the Tars defense. The Panthers out shot Rollins 13-0 in the first half, with seven of those shots on target. Six were saved by freshman goalie
Lauren Mehos, but in the 28th minute, Josefine Nilsen accepted a pass from Marem Ndiongue and punched it in for a 1-0 lead.
Rollins got their first look at the goal four minutes into the second half when
Ally Shultz took a chance, but her shot was stymied by Ayana Aoyagi. The only other attempt on goal came on a shot from
Blaire Pressley in the 63rd minute, but it was also saved.
Just moments after Pressley's attempt, the Panthers struck for the second time on a strike from Lauryn Wood that was assisted by Ndiongue. Six minutes later, Ndiongue did it herself, collecting her 16th brace of the year to make the final score of 3-0.
The final twenty minutes saw the Panthers lockdown on defense, and not allow Rollins a chance to get back in the game.
Mehos ended her day with seven saves in net, and finished er first collegiate season with eight wins and 55 saves.
This season was the Tars' first NCAA postseason appearance since 2019.
