FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 18, 2023) - Men's soccer suffered their third straight loss at the hands of the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Wednesday, losing 3-2. The Tars now stand at 5-3-3 on the year with a 3-3-1 record in SSC play. The Sharks improve to 6-4-2 and 3-3-2 in the SSC.
Rollins jumped out to an early lead in the first half when
Pedro Lameiras found
Nazar Tsaruk with a pristine pass, leading to an easy shot. The goal was Tsaruk's seventh of the season.
That would be the only score fo teh opening period, though it wasn't for lack of trying.
Pedro Lameiras, who started his first game of the year, put three shots on goal himself, but all were saved by Sharks' keeper Eduardo D'Avino. Nova Southeastern did not have a shot on target in the first half.
The game reversed completely in the second period as Nova took over on their home turf. Ten minutes into the second half, Marco Gueli knotted the game up at one with a goal. Only twenty seconds later, the Sharks were in prime position again, this time seeing Alessandro Salvadego beat
Max Walker to put Nova up one.
Roughly eight minutes later, it was Salvadego finding the net once more, giving the Sharks a 3-1 advantage.
Rollins tried desperately to claw back into the game, making a slew of substitutions and constantly attacking the Shark defense. They would eventually break through when defender
Hayden Judge scored after a corner kick for the Tars, his first goal of the season.
The Tars had one last chance with two minutes to go, but Tsaruk's shot found the woodwork on the right side, missing an equalizer by mere inches.
Rollins won the shots-on-goal battle 6-5, and also had eight corner kicks to Nova's two.
Next up for Rollins is the final home game of the regular season. Rollins will host the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday, October 21. Before the 6:00 pm kickoff, the coaching staff will recognize seven graduating seniors on the field.
