Tritons Hand Tars First Loss of the Year

Eckerd defeated Rollins 2-0 on Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (September 17, 2022) - The Rollins Tars suffered their first loss of the 2022 season on Saturday evening at Eckerd, falling to the Tritons by a score of 2-0. Rollins now sits at 5-1-1 on the year, while Eckerd improves to 3-0-3 on the year.

It did not take long for the action to get going in this one. In the ninth minute of play, Harry Laing was able to find Fredrik Heise on a nice pass that led to a quality look for the Dutchman. He was able to find the bottom left corner of the goal for the first goal of the game.

The Tritons were absolutely peppering Maximillian Obermeier in goal, launching ten shots his way in the first half. The German saved five of six that were on target. Meanwhile, Rollins only managed three shots (two on goal) in the first 45 minutes.

Rollins showed more life in the second half, upping their attack pressure while also limiting the number of chances for Eckerd. The two teams struggled to get good looks, until late in the game when the Tritons stuck the nail in the coffin. In the 85th minute, Braden Bradford was able to find teammate Tommy Shepherd who went top left bin to make it a two-score match .

It was a physical affair, with six players receiving a yellow and a total 32 fouls called between the two teams.

This was the first loss of the year for the Tars, and the first time this season they failed to score a goal.

Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, playing at home for the first time in three weeks. The Tars will host the Saint Leo Lions, who they defeated 2-1 back on September 7th. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
