Pitcher's Duel Sends Rollins to Elimination Bracket

The sixth seeded Tars dropped their first contest in the 2022 NCAA South Regional, falling to third seeded Valdosta State by a score of 1-0

TAMPA, Fla. (May 12, 2022) – The sixth seeded Tars dropped their first contest in the 2022 NCAA South Regional, falling to third seeded Valdosta State by a score of 1-0.  Rollins moves to the elimination bracket with a record of 31-11.  The Blazers advance in the winner's bracket, and will enter a showdown with the hosts, Tampa, carrying a 35-11 mark.

Rollins managed a trio of hits over seven innings, with Grace Germer, Raiven Bryant, and Jaden Walker each knocking a single.  Germer and Walker both managed to swipe a bag on the base paths.  Ashley Worrell pitched well for Rollins, surrendering just one run, on five hits, over six innings of work.

Baylee Everson tallied a pair of hits for the Blazers.  Taylor Macera tallied a 1-3 afternoon, and tallied the game's only RBI.  Ally Clegg went 1-2 and scored the run for the Blazers.  Samantha Richards highlighted to contest, tossing a complete game, while allowing three scattered hits, and striking out six.

Fourth Inning
  • Clegg led off the frame with a single through the left side.
  • Clegg advanced around the bases with a walk and a sacrifice.
  • Macera singled up the middle, scoring Clegg, but a play at the plate limited the Balzers to a 1-0 lead.
