WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2022) – The 12th-ranked Rollins baseball team earned a 1-0 win over visiting Lynn on Saturday, leveling the three-game series at one game apiece. The victory lifts the Tars to 18-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Fighting Knights drop to 15-6, 4-4 in league games.
Adams Torres finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while
Chase Achuff was 1-for-3 a walk, two stolen bases, and a run scored.
Justin Alintoff (5-0) won his fourth straight start, going seven scoreless innings, scattering six hits and walking none while striking out two.
Steven Swift nailed down his second save of the season, pitching the final two innings, giving up just a walk and picking up one strikeout.
Byron Murray went 1-for-4 with a double for Lynn, while Anthony Sanabria was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Jordan Winston (1-1) started and took the loss, giving up a run on five hits in six innings, walking one and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second Inning
- Lynn loaded the bases with two outs in the second, but Alintoff escaped by inducing a weak grounder to second to end the inning.
Fourth Inning
- The Fighting Knights had runners at first and third with two outs in the fourth, but again, Alintoff got out of it by getting the next batter to ground out to second.
- Achuff led off the bottom of the fourth by drawing a walk and immediately stealing second base.
- Two pitches later, Torres hooked a double down the left field line that allowed Achuff to score easily with the game's lone run.
Seventh Inning
- The Tars had a chance to add an insurance run in the seventh, thanks largely to back-to-back hit-by-pitches.
- Cameron Meehan was hit by the second pitch of the inning and Kyle Bullock was hit just two pitches later.
- With one out, Meehan stole third, putting runners at the corners, but Rollins couldn't find a way to get him home.
Ninth Inning
- Swift pitched around a leadoff error and a two-out walk, eventually striking out Brandon Kruzinski looking to end the ballgame.
UP NEXT:
The Tars and Fighting Knights will return to Alfond Stadium tomorrow, March 13, to wrap up this three-game series.
