MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (December 10, 2022) - A tough shooting night resulted in a loss for the Rollins Tars at the hands of conference foe Barry, 48-45. Rollins now sits at 3-5 on the year, and 0-3 in SSC play.
Rollins had their best quarter of the day in the first. The Tars captured the lead on four separate occasions, led by four points each from
Erin Leigh and
Claire Erickson. The defense in particular was impressive, forcing six Buccaneer turnovers as Rollins won the period, 15-12.
The second quarter did not cooperate with the Tars, as they only managed two made field goals. One of those two field goals was a buzzer beater three from
Lucy Leen, making the score 29-21 in Barry's favor heading into the break.
The Tars came out of the locker room with new energy in the third quarter.
Emily Dogbatse led the charge, connecting on back-to-back three pointers early in the quarter. She was followed by
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez who connected on two free throws and a layup to tie the game at 31 with 4:27 to go. The two teams traded the lead a number of times as the clock wound down.
Maria Atanassov-Tomas scored on two straight possessions late in the period to keep it close. Barry held a one point lead, 36-35, with one quarter to play.
Barry opened up the fourth with two makes, extending their lead to five. Another Dogbatse triple brought the Tars within two, but the Bucs were quick to respond with a bucket of their own.
Grace Alfieri scored for Rollins with 100 seconds to go, bringing the score to 46-43, followed by a layup from Irizarry-Perez to make it 46-45 with under a minute to play. After forcing a stop on defense, Rollins had a chance to win it, but a
Claire Erickson shot with eleven seconds to go was blocked and rebounded by the Bucs. Two free throws iced the game, with a final score of 48-45.
Dogbatse and Irizarry-Perez each had nine points to lead the Tars.
Next up for Rollins is a home game on Tuesday, December 13 against Warner. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Warden Arena.
