Spartans Outlast Tars in Tampa

Rollins fell 3-1 to Tampa on Saturday evening

TAMPA, Fla. (October 15, 2022) - The Rollins Tars tasted defeat for the first time since September 24 on Saturday evening, falling on the road to the University of Tampa Spartans by a score of 3-1. With the loss, Rollins now stands at 7-3-2 (3-3-1 SSC) while Tampa improves to 5-5-1 (3-2-1 SSC).

Tampa fed off their home crowd energy and controlled most of the first half. For the first thirty minutes, Rollins withstood the barrage of shots and pressures being thrown at them. However, the Spartans finally broke through in the 33rd minute when Albert Morales found the net to make it 1-0 Spartans. Only a few minutes later, Tampa struck again when Elijah Saint-Marc scored off a pass from Ornaldo Zeqiri to double the lead. In the first half, the Spartans outshot the Tars 13-2.

Rollins lone goal for the evening came in the 55th minute off the foot of Jordan Proulx on a pass from freshman Hayden Judge

Roughly 80 seconds later, Tampa put the nail in the coffin with their third goal of the game, this one from Nico Gamio. From there, it was all about defense and ball control for Tampa as they held on for the 3-1 win.

Tampa ended up with a huge advantage in shots, 21-8 (9-4 on goal). Maximillian Obermeier had six saves in net for the Tars. Adam Forster blocked three shots for Tampa.

Next up for Rollins is an away match next Saturday, October 22 at Embry-Riddle. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm in Daytona.
