WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2021) - The Saint Leo Lions visited Winter Park on Wednesday and showed why they are counted among the top teams in the country. The #3 Lions defeated Rollins by a final score of 7-0 at Bert Martin Tennis Complex.
Saint Leo secured the first point of the day by taking two of three doubles matches. On doubles one, Alexander Parker and Christopher Traut handed
Andrea Brignacca and
Charlie Putrino their first doubles loss of the year, winning 6-4. The third court was the next to finish with Bruno Faletto and Nicolas Bacella securing the point with a similar 6-4 final. The third matchup was the lone bright spot of the day for the Tars as
Efe Comu and
Denis Golubev battled Aurel Ciocanu and Willem van den Akker to a 7-5 Tars win.
The Lions would then sweep all six singles matches on the day to secure their fourth win of the year. Court one featured an epic battle between Bruno Faletto and
Denis Golubev. The Lions' Faletto took the first set 6-4, followed by Golubev returning the favor in set two to tie things up. The third and final set of the match went long before Faletto was able to scrape by with an 11-9 finish.
The Tars will be off for a week before taking on Eckerd at home on March 31st, followed by a road match at #2 BArry on Saturday, April 2.
