WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 11, 2021) – The Tars fell behind early, and could not make up a first quarter deficit, falling 71-50 against the Barry Buccaneers in Warden Arena. With the defeat Rollins falls to 4-5 on the year, and 1-3 against Sunshine State Conference opposition. Barry improves to 5-1 on the year, and remains unbeaten, at 3-0, in SSC play.

Lucy Leen had a career day for Rollins. The sophomore poured in 21 points, going 7-13 from the field, and 6-11 from behind the arc. Leen also added two rebounds, two steals, and an assist to her stat line.Â
Grace Alfieri scored seven points of her own, while dishing out a team high four helpers, and grabbing four steals.Â
Niya Pluviose registered a team high five rebounds.

Trinity Bosecker led Barry with 14 points on 6-8 shooting. She also added a game high nine rebounds. Harriet Swindells filled the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Ashleigh Pink registered nine points, four assists, and a team best three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- The Buccaneers were able to grab an early lead. Grace Alfieri tallied a three pointer to cut the lead to two, at 8-6, with 5:44 on the clock. Barry got a bucket before the media timeout, to take a 10-6 lead into the break.
- Each team hit back to back three pointers, with Alfieri and Lucy Leen hitting from deep for Rollins, to make the score 16-12.
- Barry would end the quarter on 10-0 run to take a 26-12 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter
- Leen hit back-to-back threes to open the second quarter, cutting the defict to 10, but that was as close as Rollins could get in the period.
- The teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the second quarter. Silvia Lasarte Garcia hit a layup with 28 seconds remaining to make score 40-25 at the half.
Third Quarter
- Barry jumped out to an 11-0 run to start the second half. Asia Newsome finally broke the streak with a jump shot at the 6:10 mark.
- The Bucs won the third quarter 18-7, and grew the lead to 58-32 to enter the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Barry extended their lead to 29 over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter; but Leen hit a three to stop the Barry run.
- Rollins cut into the Barry advantage down the stretch, but there was not enough time on the clock, as Rollins came up short.
UP NEXT:
Rollins will break for the holiday before returning to action on December 31 with a trip to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern. Tip off is set for 5:30.
