TAMPA, Fla. (November 8, 2021) – The Tars advanced to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Semifinals with a thrilling, come from behind, victory over the Tampa Spartans at Pepin Stadium on the campus of the University of Tampa. Trailing 2-0, Rollins would net a pair of goals to send the game to overtime, before finding the winning score with the clock ticking down, and penalty kicks on the horizon.

With the win Rollins improves 8-6-3 overall. The Tars advance to take on top-seeded Embry-Riddle in the SSC Tournament Semifinals. Tampa ends their 2021 campaign at 7-8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
- The Tars and Spartans played the first 27 minutes evenly;Â both teams controlled spells of possession and generated chances.
- Tampa got the breakthrough in the 28th minute. Katherine Hostage cut inside on her left foot and lofted a shot over Noel Miller and into the top corner of the net.
- Moments later the Spartans doubled their lead when they picked up a failed Rollins clear. Stephanie deLaforcade received a pass and fired a second Spartan shot into the top corner.
- Bailey Tran would cut the deficit for Rollins at the 37 minute mark. The junior stood over a set piece and fired a rocket from 30 yards that scorched the upper 90 of the Tampa goal, beyond a diving Spartan goalkeeper.
Second Half
- The Tars dominated the second half, controlling possession and peppering the Tampa goal.
- The pressure paid off in the 77th minute. Tran controlled around the edge of the box before putting an effort on goal. Her shot was blocked, but the ball deflected to a waiting Tayla Duffy who deftly touched the ball around a defender and onto her left foot; she fired a shot into the goal for the equalizer.
- Neither team could convert on chances in the final minutes, as buzzer sounded with the score still knotted.
First Overtime
- Rollins controlled much of the first overtime period, firing two shots, while holding the Spartans without an attempt on goal. The Tars forced one save.
Second Overtime
- The teams struggled to gain a footing, as the ball went end to end for much of the second overtime.
- Late in the period Briyah Drayton gathered a pass from Kayla Park and put a dangerous shot on net. The Tampa keeper parried away the attempt, but Duffy rushed into the six yard box and was first to the loose ball. From a difficult angle, and falling away from the goal, she managed a shot that took a deflection, hit the inside of the pipe, and trickled over the goal line, sending Rollins into the SSC Tournament Semifinals.
