WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 20, 2019) – Rollins got back on track with an impressive win over Bates College on Thursday, defeating the Bobcats 6-1 at home.
The first point was awarded to Rollins after they swept all three doubles matchups. Flight two was the first to finish with Georgina Groth and Katie Groves taking the match over Isabelle Rovinski and Haley Washington by a score of 6-1. In the first flight, Alexandra Borg and Ola Durzynski defeated Suzanne Elfman and Anna Rozin 6-2 to clinch the point. Rollins swept the doubles matches when Marie Debruyn and Polina Vlasova secured flight three with a 6-3 win.
Rollins went 5-1 in singles competition:
- Alexandra Borg squared off against Hannah Sweeney in flight one. The two battled to a final score of 6-3, 6-2. It was Borg's first win in flight one this year.
- Kaitlynn Groves represented the Tars in flight two. In her 1st appearance out of the second position on the year, Groves scored a point for Rollins with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rozin.
- In flight three, Georgina Groth continued her hot start to the year. The freshman faced off against Elfman and was able to win her second singles match of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
- Marie Debruyn played against Rovinski in the fourth flight. The senior earned her second win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 effort.
- Freshman Polina Vlasova played well in her flight five matchup with Lauren Hernandez. The two battled to a final score of 6-1, 6-1 in favor of Vlasova.
- Paula Collado Cordon saw her first action of the season in flight six, falling to Joanna Atwater by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
With the win, the Tars now stand at 2-2, 0-1 SSC. They will jump back into action on Monday afternoon when they face the Blazers of Valdosta State at home. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 pm. Stay tuned to RollinsSports.com for the latest updates.
