Strong Second Day Moves Tars Up SAISA Leaderboard

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (February 17, 2020) - This past weekend the Rollins Sailing team participated in the SAISA Open at Eckerd College.

Day one saw winds of of 14-16 knots and the Tars started off slowly. After 16 races, Rollins sat in 12th place.

Sunday's breeze was a bit lighter, at 8-12 knots, and the Tars were ready. The first race of the day saw Teagan Walsh and Simon Munoz finishing in second place. After the first 2 races Rollins had moved into the 11th position. Nick Baker and Nico Ladino continued to push Rollins up the leaderboard with a series of strong races in the B division. The pair were able grab a second-place finish, and kept their results in the top-10 for the rest of the day. The Tars were able to climb to 9th place out of the 21 team at the event.

The Tars currently sit fifth in the South Division.  The top-six teams in the South, after all the points events, qualify for Conference Championships in April.

Rollins is still hoping for an invite to the Mendelblatt Team Race, in St. Petersburg, on Saturday, February 22.  However, the next concrete event on the Tars' slate in February 29, when they will head to Miami for the second South Points Race of 2020.
