WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 4, 2019) – Multiple weather delays totaling nearly two hours and coming up on the wrong end of 12-5 score to Embry-Riddle Saturday dampened Rollins Senior Day.
Luke Reidy, Cameron Montgomery and Isaiah Russell pounded out two hits apiece with Russell and Nick Santucci both driving in a pair.
Garrett Leonard took the loss on the hill, getting chased in the second after allowing three runs on five hits. Tate Stone-Frisina, Anthony Trovato, James Hoelle and Casey Wright also pitched for the Tars (25-20, 12-14 SSC).
Embry-Riddle (27-18, 16-10 SSC) totaled 17 hits on the day, led by Kirk Sidwell going 3-5 and John Devine batting 3-4. Cole Habig knocked in three runs.
Rollins took an early lead in the first when Kyle Hintz was hit by a pitch for the conference leading 21st time to lead off the inning. He then stole second, stole third and scored on a Jack Gonzalez groundout.
The Eagles plated three in the top of the second and put the Tars down 5-1 in the fourth before the rains came and halted play in the bottom of the frame.
After a 30 minute stoppage, Santucci singled in Brendan Brundage and Russell later ripped a two RBI single that plated Santucci and Cameron Montgomery, pulling the Tars to within 4-3. Another 50 minute rain delay sent everyone to cover again and the complexity of the game changed coming out of the break.
The Eagles were a different team after the last rain delay, scoring one in the fifth and two runs in each the sixth and seventh and left Rollins staring at a 10-4 deficit.
Santucci got one back for the Tars in the eighth before ERAU scored two in the ninth, making the final count 12-5.
The Tars will close the 2019 home season on Sunday, May 5 with first pitch set for 10 a.m., move up three hours to beat forecast inclement weather. Fans can catch the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
