Tars Solid All the Way Around in Win over Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 7, 2019)- Starter Cameron Enck allowed just one run and Jimmy Robbins picked up his second save of the weekend as Rollins cruised to a 3-1 win over Florida Southern on Sunday.

The victory gives the Tars (20-12, 8-7 SSC) a third-straight series win. FSC falls to 19-15, 5-10 SSC.

Cameron Montgomery and Jack Gonzalez both went 2-4 at the plate with solo home runs. Kyle Hintz hit 2-4 and Luke Reidy knocked in a run.

Enck improved to 5-2 on the season, fanning five and allowing five hits and one run with just one walk. Enck was the game one starter on Friday and recorded only one out before a two-hour rain delay ended his night. Robbins, coming off a one-inning save on Saturday, surrendered one hit with three strikeouts over the final two and a third.

Alan Burnsed went 2-3 and scored the lone Southern run with a solo homer in the seventh. Vaun Brown hit 2-3 with Jacob Teter and Austin Huber also getting hits.

Trevor Castell took the loss, pitching in six and a third innings with five strikeouts and allowing two runs. J.J Niekro also saw action on the hill.

Hintz led off the game with a single to set the tone. LaFontaine reached on a fielder's choice and was brought home on a Reidy single to center. Montgomery whacked a solo homer in the second to put the Tars up 2-0.

FSC finally got to Eck in the seventh as Brunsed homered and cut the Tars lead in half.

The Tars sealed the deal during the top of the eighth from Jack Gonzalez hitting a solo homerun to center field.

Southern had the tying run on in each of the last two winnings, but Robbins got out of the jam each time.

Rollins will be back to Alfond Stadium April 12 at 6 p.m. against SSC opponent Saint Leo. The game will be followed by a 1 p.m. double header on Saturday, April 13. Fans can catch the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
