WINTER PARK, FLA. (April 18 2019) – Rollins slipped into an early hole and couldn't climb out Thursday, falling to Barry 8-1 in the Sunshine State Conference series opener.
The Tars fall to 22-15 overall and 10-9 in the league while Barry improves to 25-13, 12-10 SSC.
Brendan Brundage went 2-4 with a double and triple while Nick Santucci hit 1-3 with an RBI for the Tars offense.
Cameron Enck took the loss (5-3) pitching in 4.2 innings with five strikeouts and allowing five runs. Ross Korosec, James Hoelle, Casey Wright and Kyle Bachle also pitched.
Richie Sobalvarro led Barry, going 3-5 with three RBIs and two home runs. Chris Cabrera had a 1-3 night at the plate with two RBIs and one homer.
Pablo Arevalo picked up the win (6-4) with three strikeouts and only allowing one run in six innings of work. Amilcar Yanez earned the save, tossing three effective innings and allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
The Buccaneers took the lead early, scoring one run in each the first and second innings. Barry's advantage improved to 5-0 in the fifth and, after a Cabrera two-run home run in the sixth, the Bucs led 7-0.
Tars got on the board late in the game. Jack Gonzalez and Luke Reidy had back to back singles to lead off the sixth with Santucci later knocking in Gonzalez.
Barry then put a cap on the night in the seventh as Sobalvarro again homered to left field for the final run of the game 8-1.
Tars are back Friday April 19 at 10 AM for the second game in the series.
