LAKELAND, Fla. (April 10, 2019) – The No. 47 Tars just missed upsetting Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern, falling to the No. 19 Mocs 4-3. Rollins drops to 8-9 on the year and 2-5 in conference play. Florida Southern improves to 14-5 overall and 5-3 in SSC action.
The Tars started the match well, earning two doubles wins, and the point. The Mocs took the third match to start the action, but Rollins responded with a win in the second spot; Teresa Kasier and Kaitlynn Groves cruised to a 6-1 win. Alexandra Borg and Ola Durzynski then captured the decisive first court match, 6-4. The pair have now combined twice in the top spot for Rollins, winning both times.
Florida Southern would take the lead with the first two singles wins, in the second and sixth spots. Borg earned her second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-0 straight set win on the first court, leveling the overall totals. It was not enough however, as Florida Southern, took the next two decisions to earn their fourth point and seal the contest. Kaiser ended the match on a positive note for the Tars downing her opponent 7-6, 6-4 on the fourth court.
The Tars will look to right the ship tomorrow, Thursday, April 11, when they visit Eckerd. First serve is set for 3 p.m. in St. Petersburg.
