Rollins Splits With Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 9, 2019) – Rollins ended game one of their doubleheader early, but could not find the bats in game two, as they split their twin bill with Palm Beach Atlantic, and drop their first series of the season. Rollins took game one, 9-0, in six innings before failing to score in a 2-0 defeat in the rubber match.  Rollins moves to 17-4 on the year, and 8-4 in Sunshine State Conference action.  The Sailfish end the series at .500, 14-14, overall, and 4-5 in SSC play.

Game 1:
Abigail Sexton starred for Rollins in game one, going 2-3 at the plate and scoring three runs.  Talia Kentoffio also tallied a 2-3 day, while driving in two.  Grace Street homered and earned three RBI.  Ashley Worrell tossed five shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out six.

Kara Wagstaff would get Rollins on the board in the second, scampering home on a passed ball.  The Tars would make it 2-0 in the frame, Sexton scoring on a Sarah Harrison RBI single.  Rollins capitalized on a walk and hit batter in the third, when Grace Street sent the ball over the left field wall, making the score 5-0.  Kentoffio plated Sexton in the third with an RBI single, she then came around herself, tallying a run on a Lindsay Gehring sacrifice fly.  The Tars continued to put up crooked numbers in the fifth.  Victoria Whalen scoring on another Kentoffio single, and Sexton crossing home a third time after a Jordan Davis bunt single.  Worrell made easy work of the Sailfish in the bottom of the frame, securing the early victory for Rollins.

Game 2:
The Tars would scatter seven hits in game two, but could not string them together to get a run cross.  Jordan Davis led the way, going 2-4, while Sarah Harrison went 2-2 at the plate.  Abby Summers picked up the loss, her first of the year, throwing six, giving up two runs, and striking out eight.

The game remained scoreless into the sixth, when the Sailfish were able to get a pair.  A lead off single was followed by two quick outs.  However, a triple and a single, plated two, putting Rollins in a 2-0 hole headed into their final at bat.  A Talia Kentoffio lead off single could not spark a rally for the Tars, as they failed to score for just the second time this season.
