MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 23, 2019) – The Tars earned their first Sunshine State Conference win of the year, controlling their match-up against Florida Tech. Rollins improves to 12-2 on the year, while tallying their first SSC win to move to 1-1. The Panthers fall to 5-7 overall, and 1-3 in conference action.
Rollins swept doubles action to earn the point. Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer started the match for the Tars by cruising to a 6-1 win in the third position. Ziad Melhaoui and Gai Feigin sealed the point, earning the Tars' second doubles match with a 6-3, first court win. Nicolo De Fraia and Frederick Danielson completed the Tars' perfect doubles showing with a 6-4 victory in the second spot.
The Tars' dominance continued into singles action. Gezer got Rollins on the board first with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the fourth position. Melhaoui made the score 3-0, with a completely dominating third court performance, shutting out his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Feigin sealed the overall win for Rollins, sailing to a 6-2, 6-2 win on the fifth court. Andrea Brignacca made easy work of his sixth spot foe, tallying a 6-2, 6-1 win. Nicolo De Fraia justified his newly earned No. 31 nationally singles ranking with a 6-1, 6-2, top position, win. Nicolas-Ruiz completed the Tars shutout, recovering from a first set defeat, to defend his new singles ranking with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 victory.
Rollins will return to the court on Wednesday, March 27, when they will host No. 18 Embry-Riddle at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex. First serve against the Eagles is set for 3 p.m.
