Tars Make Easy Work of Big Blue

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 13, 2019) – The Tars dominated the No. 1 team in the Atlantic Region, defeating the Bluefield State Big Blues 4-1 on the courts at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.  The Tars improve to 9-2 overall, while Bluefield State drops to 3-5 in 2019.

The Tars swept doubles play to earn the point.  Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer got the Tars started, winning the third court doubles match 6-2.  The number one court of Ziad Melhasoui and Andrea Brignacca sealed the point for the Tars, taking their contest 6-4.  Rollins earned the sweep courtesy of Nicolo De Fraia and Frederick Danielson's 6-4 win on the second court. 

De Fraia made the score 2-0 with a dominant performance on the top court.  The No. 20 player in the South Region easily dispatched the No. 10 player in the Atlantic Region, 6-3, 6-1.  Nicolas-Ruiz bested the No. 7 player in the nation on the second court, putting Rollins on the brink of victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win.  After the Big Blues took a lone match Rollins clinched the victory in the third spot. Melhaoui defending his No. 21 national ranking with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the No. 49 player in the country.  The remaining matches went unfinished as trhe Tars had clinched the win. 

The Tars conclude their Spring Break action tomorrow, Thursday, March 14, when they host Northwood.  First serve against the Timberwolves is set for 1 p.m.
