FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 9, 2019) – Nova Southeastern hit its first five shots of the game as Rollins slipped into a double-digit hole and couldn't recover, falling to the Sharks 80-60 on Wednesday evening.
Rachel Jablonski had the hot hand for Rollins (9-10, 6-7 Sunshine State Conference), netting 17 points off the bench. The sophomore was 6-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 from long range. Denise Daniels posted 14 points while Jaylynn Harrison scored 12.
NSU (12-8, 8-5 SSC) had five score in double figures, led by 18 from Alison Hughes. Christen Prasse recorded 16 points, five nine rebounds and five assists. Mikayla Thompson added 14 points and eight boards while both Claire McMahon and Maria Bardeeva scored 12.
Rollins shot 40 percent in the game and attempted just five free throws, making two. The host Sharks were 21-of-25 at the charity stripe and hit 46 percent from the field.
NSU's hot shooting to start resulted in a 15-4 Rollins deficit just five minutes into the game. The Tars were unable to match the torrid pace and trailed 24-10 after the first.
The second quarter was more of the same as the Sharks outscored Rollins 22-9 in the frame and put the Tars down 46-10 at halftime.
Trailing by 29 early in the third, Rollins started to mount a comeback, putting together a 20-4 run and closing to 52-39 after a Jablonski three-pointer with 2:16 on the clock. Another bucket and third three-pointer of the game for Jablonski pulled Rollins to within 55-44 with a minute to play in the quarter.
Rollins would trail 57-44 heading into the fourth.
NSU scored the first five points of the last quarter and was able to go back up 20, 70-50 with 4:28 to play. Rollins got as close at 16 late but the Sharks clutch free throw shooting closed the door on a Tars comeback.
