Rollins Upended by Tampa

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 13, 2019) – Rachel Jablonski scored 15 points, but Rollins couldn't overcome Tampa's stout defense as the Tars fell to the Spartans 67-50. 

Rollins drops to 10-12, 7-9 Sunshine State Conference while UT improves to 18-6, 12-4 SSC. 

Jablonski was 6-of-9 from the field and hit three, three pointers in 31 minutes of action. Carly McLendon added eight points and six rebounds while Vernisha Andrews tallied seven points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. 

Melijah Sullivan poured in 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting to lead UT. Emily Eshoo added 17 points with Staja Tyghter recording 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

UT hit 56 percent from the field and held Rollins 31 percent. The Tars outrebounded Tampa 35-30 and committed just seven turnovers while forcing 11. 

Both offense were slow with an Eshoo three-pointer putting UT up 7-2, eight minutes into the game. 

Tampa held an 11-7 after the first. 

The Tars took their first lead of the game at the 8:20 mark of the second as an Andrews jumper put Rollins up 14-13. UT came back to lead 20-14 before the Tars went on a 7-0 run and got back on top 21-20. 

After UT went on a run of their won, the Tars fought back and closed to 31-29 at the break. 

Rollins tied the scored twice early in the third, but couldn't get over the hump. UT then got hot from outside and grabbed a 51-43 lead going into the fourth. 

Tampa scored the first 14 points of the fourth quarter and put the Tars in a 65-43 hole. Rollins wouldn't get any closer than 15 the rest of the way.
