Rollins Season Ends in First Round of NCAA Tournament

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (November 22, 2019) – The Tars 2019 campaign came to an end with a 2-0 defeat against Embry-Riddle in the first round of the NCAA South Region Tournament.  Rollins finishes the year with a record of 12-5-1.  The Eagles move on the face Lee in the next round of the tournament.

Chynna McGirt fired off four shots, putting two on target, while Sarah Buckley sent five balls toward the Embry-Riddle goal, forcing one save.  Freshman Elena Beasley made 12 saves to keep the Tars in the game until the final moment.

Sophie Brundin led the Embry-Riddle offense.  The defender scored a pair of goals.  Isabelle Navren tallied a pair of assists for the Eagles.  Dana Ruchti made four saves, preserving the shutout for Embry-Riddle.

The Tars controlled the ball for much of the first half, but could only force one save from Ruchti.  The Eagles would prove dangerous on the counter attack, forcing Beasley into seven first half saves. However, the contest would remain scoreless until the 41st minute when Brundin got her head to a Navren free kick, deflecting the ball into the Rollins net.  The Eagles would double the lead just moments later, when the same duo teamed up to convert a corner kick.

Rollins came out energized and aggressive in the second half, opening play up, and pressing to get on the scoreboard.  The Tars hit the crossbar and had balls cleared off the goal line by the Embry-Riddle defense, preventing the Tars from mounting a comeback, as the Tars season ended.

Notes:

  • The Tars bow out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round for the second straight season.
