Rollins Takes Commanding Lead at McDonough Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. (October 28, 2019) – The top-five Tars all shot under par in the second round as Rollins jumped out to a 17-shot lead after day one of the McDonough Cup. Rollins is serving as host of the event at historic Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando. 

The Tars opened with a 290 before firing an eight-under 280 in round two to firmly sit atop the leaderboard. Rollins second round score is a season low and the best since posting a 278 in the second round of the 2018 Georgia College Bobcat Invitational. 

Missouri-St. Louis and Embry-Riddle are both 11-over and tied for second while Indianapolis (+14) and Mount Olive (+18) round out the top-five. 

Morgan Egloff leads the way for Rollins, turning in matching rounds of 70 to sit second at four-under. The senior only took one bogey in each round while racking up six birdies. 

Nicholas Diebel is a shot back of Egloff in third place, shooting 71-70. He was twice at two-under early in the first round and battled back with a string of birdies. The sophomore's second round was equally as good with three birdies and one bogey. 

Danny Taggart made a 19-spot jump on the leaderboard in the afternoon, posting a round of 69 to go along with an opening 75. Will Hall is tied for 12th at one-over, turning in rounds of 74-71 and Trystan Perkins shot 78-71 to tie for 23rd at five-over. 

The Rollins B squad is 11th after the first day, shooting 300-309 (+30). 

Nicholas Bessire is tied for 19th at four-over to lead the team. James Piao is tied for 30th, firing off rounds of 74-76 (+6). Connor Jensen individual Michael Pergamo are tied for 48th at 11-over, both shooting scores of 80-75. Louis Charpentier is tied for 59th at 14-over (82-76). 

Carlos Riascos is tied for 71st with rounds of 88-75 (+19) and Marc Holzhauer is 76th after shooting 81-84. Tim Graham is alone in 76th place at 23-over, turning in cards of 82-85.   

The 2019 McDonough Cup will conclude with a final round on Tuesday, October 29 with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. Fans can follow the action live at GolfStat.com.
