Tars Upset Bid Falls Short Against No. 8 Mocs

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 19, 2019) – The strength of eighth-ranked Florida Southern proved to be too much for Rollins Saturday as the Tars fell 78-61 to the rival Mocs. 

Vernisha Andrews posted a career high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Rollins (8-7, 5-4 Sunshine State Conference). Rachel Jablonski added 10 points and Yari Martinez-Toro netted nine. 

Anja Fuchs-Robetin led FSC (16-1, 9-0 SSC) with 28 points and hauled in seven rebounds. Camille Giardina scored 26 on 4-of-7 shooting from long range. 

The Tars kept it close to start and led 8-4 midway through the first quarter. Rollins was held without a field goal the final 5:49 of the frame and trailed 13-10. In the second, the Mocs used solid free throw shooting to pull away and put Rollins down 37-28 at intermission. 

FSC started the second half on a 11-3 run as Rollins trailed 53-35 with 4:45 left in the quarter. 

Rollins went into the fourth down 65-45. 

The Tars couldn't gain any ground in the final quarter, getting as close at 15 late in the game before falling by 17. 

Rollins shot 33 percent from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line. The Tars dominated the glass, outrebounding FSC 45-28, including 24-4 on the offensive end. Southern shot 48 percent in the game.
