LAKELAND, Fla. (September 24,2018) – Rollins made the short trip down I-4 to take part in the ITA South Regional Championship. The tars got a number of positive results from their five singles representatives and their two doubles teams.
Katie Dyson and Alexandra Borg took their first match, from Krvajica and Wood from Embry-Riddle, by a score of 8-2, before falling in the second round to the seeded pair of Obanda and Navas from Nova Southeastern. While Aleksandra Durzynski and Teresa Kaiser suffered a first round defeat, but recovered to dominate the consolation bracket. The pair downed Krvajica and Wood in the final match, 8-1.
Borg highlighted the Tars singles play with an upset of ninth ranked Haina Franco of West Florida in the first round. The junior then picked up a three set, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7, win over Diana Vlad to advance all the way to the round of 16. Dyson also earned a first round victory, but fell in the second to fifth seeded Berta Bonardi of West Florida. Durzynski tallied a pair of wins in the consolation singles bracket before dropping a three set marathon in the quarterfinals.
The Tars will now prepare to host the Varner Invitational from October 5 through October 6, on the campus of Rollins College.
