BRADENTON, Fla. (April 19, 2018) – The Tars fell to the Saint Leo Lions 5-1, bowing out in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Tars move to 13-9 overall, while the Lions improve their mark to 17-5, and advance to the tournament semifinals where they will face top-seeded Barry.
Rollins trailed 2-1 after doubles play. The Lions took the first point of the match in the third doubles position. The Tars would pull even with a win on the second court. Katie Dyson and Teresa Kaiser would take the 8-4 victory over Marta Vicens Miquel and Andrada Gordon to make the score 1-1. Rollins, however, would drop the top-25 match up on the first court by a score of 8-6.
The Lions took the first three singles decisions to clinch the overall victory. Saint Leo won on the first, second, and fourth courts. Marie Debruyn had captured the first set of her sixth position match, before the contest was called.
Rollins will now have to wait to learn their NCAA Tournament fate. The selection show is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, at 8:30 p.m.
