Tars Survive Warriors' Upset Bid

No. 14 Rollins – 5
Wayne State – 4 

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2018) – Rollins survived a scare from Wayne State before heading on their Spring Break trip, edging the Warriors 5-4 at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.  With the win Rollins improves to 4-5 on the year, while Wayne State falls to 6-4. 

The Tars jumped out in front with a pair of doubles wins.  Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz, the No. 8 team in the south region, bested Mark Westkamp and Taylor Vane 8-6 in the first position.  Ziad Melhaoui and Atakan Gezer would tally the second Rollins point with an 8-5 win on the second court. 

Melhaoui would cruise in his singles match as well, tallying his second win of the day, and the Tars' third, with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the fifth spot.  Frederick Danielson recovered from a first set loss to tally another win for Rollins.  The freshman would take the sixth position match 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.  Nicolas-Ruiz would clinch the victory for Rollins on the second court.  The junior lost a second set tiebreak, but dominated the third set en route to a 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2 win. 

The Tars head west to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a Spring Break trip that will see them face four teams, three of whom are ranked in the national top-25.  The road trip will start with a match up against No. 19 Hawaii Pacific on Sunday, March 11, at 5 p.m.
