FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 29, 2018) – The Tars couldn't get going offensively, while the Sharks offense exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to bust the game wide open, and the Tars would fall in game one to the Sharks, 11-1.
The Tars drop to 16-12 overall, and 4-6 in SSC play, while the Sharks improve to 18-9 overall, and 10-3 in conference matches.
The Tars were held to just three hits on the night. Brendan Brundage, Nick Santucci, and Brian Brooker all recorded a hit in the Tars setback.
On the mound, Garrett Leonard got the nod as the starter. The Fort Mill, South Carolina native tossed in five innings, scattering two hits, and allowing three runs. He also tallied four strikeouts and his third loss of the season in the setback. Appearances on the hill were also made by Brian Auerbach, Anthony Trovato, and Mike Gaughan. Gaughan finished up the game for the Tars, and compiled three punch outs against the Sharks offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Sharks got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead over the Tars, when Ian Acevado singled to left center, scoring Andrew Liberty.
- A huge sixth inning by the Sharks proved to be the downfall for the Tars, as the Sharks were able to plate seven runs, bringing their advantage to 8-0.
- Once again it was Nova Southeastern's bats doing the talking, as they were able to tally another three runs in the bottom of the seventh, to take an 11-0 lead over the Tars.
- Rollins would finally get on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth, when Brundage was able to make it home safely after the Sharks turned a double play, but their lead was cut to 11-1.
- The Tars wouldn't get any closer as the Sharks were able to close out the last inning, and they would drop game one 11-1.
