WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 23, 2018) – Rollins jumped out to an early lead, but ultimately had to come from behind to take the series opener, 5-3, over the Eckerd Tritons. With the win Rollins improves to 21-13 on the season, and 7-6 in Sunshine State Conference play. Eckerd falls to 12-18 and 3-10 in SSC action.
Rollins got a run in the first, but would fall behind after surrendering three in the third. A Brianne Lint homerun would tie the game in the sixth and spark a Rollins rally, that would give them the lead for good. Grace Street picked up her 11th win of the year with a complete game effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Jordan Davis started the game by striking out, but alertly darted to first on a third strike wild pitch. The junior would come home to score on a RBI single by shortstop Talia Kentoffio.
- The Tritons would load the bases with one out in the third, and eventually bring in three runs. Nine Eckerd players came to the plate in the frame; however, the inning could have been worse, with the Tritons leaving the bases loaded.
- The Tars would respond with a run in the fourth. Senior Brianne Lint would cross the plate on a Lindsay Gehring single.
- Lint would thentie the contest with a leadoff homerun in the sixth. The Tars would continue the onslaught and take a two run lead in the frame. Sarah Harrison and Brianna Lint were both plated by Triton fielding errors.
- Grace Street would slam the door closed on Eckerd. After giving up a pair of base runners to start the seventh, the junior retired the next three batters to secure the victory.
