WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2018) – The Tars snapped their seven-game win streak with an extra innings loss to No. 24 Palm Beach Atlantic, 4-2.
The Tars drop to 14-8 on the year, and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Sailfish improve to 18-5 overall, and are still perfect in the conference at 7-0.
The Tars were limited to just three hits against the Sailfish. Brendan Brundage recorded a lone hit, as did Sam LaFontaine, and Joe Cosgrove. Brundage, as well as freshman Luke Reidy registered the two RBI for Rollins.
On the mound, Cameron Enck got the start and put in a good-looking shift for the Blue and Gold. The junior allowed only two hits, and two earned runs in eight innings tossed, while dishing out a game high 12 strikeouts from the hill. Caleb Jakes came in late, pitching in three innings, while scattering three hits, two runs scored, and three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Sailfish would open up the scoring when Connor Rowland went deep over the right field fence, giving the Sailfish a 1-0 advantage.
- Palm Beach got going again, doubling their lead when Danny Tufariello singled to first base, allowing Kyle Simon to score.
- Rollins finally went to work offensively in the bottom of the eighth. Brundage singled to first base to get the Tars going, plating Brooker for the score, and then it was a Reidy walk with the bases loaded that allowed Grant Ashline to tie the game at 2-2.
- The Sailfish and Tars would need extra innings to settle game one, but the Sailfish would jump out in front with a two-run advantage in the top of the 11th, and take game one from the Tars, 4-2.
