WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 18, 2018) – The Rollins offense was in full force against Bentley, as they won their second straight, 14-2 against the Falcons.
The Tars improve overall to 5-3 on the year, while Bentley drops to 1-4 this campaign.
A host of Tars powered the offense including Nick Santucci who went 3-4 against the Falcons, including two doubles, a triple, and three RBI. Brian Brooker filled the stat sheet going 2-4 with one double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Nick Breen and Isaiah Russell chipped in offensively as well. Russell, the Brooklyn, New York native went 1-4 on the afternoon, tallying a triple, RBI, and two runs scored. Breen continues to be a nightmare for the Falcons tallying two hits, one run scored, and one hit by pitch.
Junior Brad Case got the start, as well as the win against Bentley. The righty pitched six innings, allowing only seven hits and compiled three strikeouts. Appearances were also made by Tate Stone and Whit Drennan late to help seal the Tars victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Rollins wasted no time offensively, with Brundage scoring on an RBI groundout to give the Tars a slight 1-0 lead early. Santucci picked up right where he left off a night ago and drove home two runs with a triple off the wall to right field, Tars then led 3-0.
•Not letting up, the Tars offense continued to pile on the runs, scoring four in the bottom of the second. Russell drove a double to deep right center allowing Billy Lamm to score. Santucci once again got in on the action with a double to right, bringing home Breen and Brooker to bring the Tars advantage to 7-0.
• Again it was Rollins tacking on four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brooker recorded a double, plating two more runs for the Blue and Gold. Both Cameron Meehan and Lamm recorded singles that helped the Tars tack on two more runs and lead 11-0.
• Bentley would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth to cut the Tars advantage to 11-1.• Sam LaFontaine got the Tars going in the bottom of the seventh when he reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Russell to score. Peterson would register his second home run in as many days when he went deep over the right field wall, scoring LaFontaine in the process. Rollins led 14-1.
• Bentley would add a single run late, but it wouldn't be enough to tackle the Tars who won it, 14-2.
NOTES:
• Eight different Tars recorded hits in the game
• This is the second time this season the Tars have scored at least 14 runs
• Rollins is now 36-8 all-time against the Falcons
• Head Coach Jon Sjogren is 326-302-3 in his 13th season at the helm
