Tars Soar Over Eagles on Senior Day

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 20, 2018) – Rollins celebrated the careers of eight seniors with a 3-0 victory over Embry-Riddle at Barker Family Stadium.  With the win, the Tars improve to 10-5 overall, 4-5 in the SSC, and remain alive in the hunt for a spot in the SSC Tournament.  The Eagles fall to 2-9-1 in 2018, and 1-7-1 in conference action.

The Tars got goals from seniors Damian Clarke and Luis Diego, along with a tally from Kevin Da Rocha Figueira to account for their three goals.  The tally for Diego was his first in the Blue and Gold.  Rollins got assists from Ray Gerke, senior Andre Nansen, and Tyler Nagy.  TJ Brubaker made six saves to preserve the shutout.  The Eagles took 12 shots, putting six on frame, while Will Hanisch made four saves in 90 minutes of play.

Rollins got on the board in the 16th minute when Gerke whipped in a low cross.  The ball skirted the edge of the six-yard box where Clarke gathered the ball and took a touch before putting the ball in the side netting.  The Tars doubled their lead in 33rd minute when Nansen sent a perfect ball lofting into the penalty area, Da Rocha Figueira out maneuvered his marker and got his head on the ball, putting it in the back of the net.  The Tars seemed content to see out the game, but with just over one minute remaining Rollins got their third tally.  Nagy played a perfectly weighted through ball and Diego outpaced the Eagles back line before deftly placing the ball around the keeper for his goal.

The Tars will face Florida Tech, in their final regular season game, next Tuesday, October 23.  Kickoff against the Panthers is set for 7 p.m. in Melbourne.
