Rollins Falls to Conference Leading Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. (January 13, 2018) – After winning two-straight, Rollins ran into the hottest team in the Sunshine State Conference on Saturday and fell to league-leading Florida Southern 80-60 on the road.

Julia Ingler led the way for the Tars with 12 points. Chandler Hall had a career day, shooting 5-of-6 for a personal best 10 points. Denise Daniels added 10 points while Carly McLendon totaled seven rebounds and three blocks.

Rollins drops to 10-6 overall and 5-5 in the SSC while Southern improves to 12-3, 7-2 SSC.

Camille Giardina pumped in 21 points to lead the Mocs while Jensen Blassage scored 19. Anja Fuchs-Robetin tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Rollins shot 39 percent (22-57) while FSC scorched the nets for 48 percent (30-62). The Tars were beat on the glass 37-30 and committed 21 turnovers to the Mocs 15.

The Tars offense struggled coming out of the gate and Rollins fell into a 17-4 hole after the first six minutes. Hall sparked an 8-2 run and the Tars pulled to within 19-10 late in the first before ending the first 10 minutes down 23-14.

Back-to-back scores by the Tars to start the second closed the gap to 23-18 before the Mocs offense went on a 24-5 run and put Rollins down 47-23 with 2:19 left in the half.

Rollins trailed 49-27 at intermission.

The Tars fought back to start the third and pulled to within 53-41 on an Ingler three-pointer, the 200th of her record-setting career, at the 4:42 mark. Southern later pushed its lead back to 20, 66-46 before Jaylyn Harrison got a free throw late to make the count 66-47 heading into the fourth. Rollins would get no closer the rest of the way and trailed by as many as 27 late in the game.

Rollins has seven days off before starting the second half of the Sunshine State Conference schedule on Saturday, January 20 at home against Barry. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. in Warden Arena.
