Melbourne, Fla. (April 27, 2017) - Rollins returned to their winning ways and defeated Florida Tech, 8-2 for their ninth conference victory of the season. This was the second game of the series, and with the win, the Tars even the series at 1-1. The third and final game will be played on April 27, at 11 a.m.

Again, it was the seniors Christopher Corbett and Peter Nicoletto who would lead Rollins (25-18, 9-11 SSC) offensively. Corbett went 4-5, with a triple, two runs scored, and two RBI. Nicoletto was 3-5 with a pair of doubles, one RBI, and three runs scored on the day. Nick Breen also chipped in with a three-shot home run, to go along with two runs scored.

Grant McKown and Nick Capra tried to help the Panthers (26-17, 10-7 SSC) keep up offensively. McKown batted 1-4, with an RBI, while Nick Capra went 1-5 with an RBI as well. Reid Neal tallied three hits for the Panthers, including a double.

On the mound, it was a combined effort from the Tars bullpen. Freshman AJ Chacon got the start on the mound, his 10th of the year. He pitched four innings, scattering six hits, with two runs scored, and four strikeouts. Chacon picked up the win, his team leading sixth of the year. Coming in as a relief, Caleb Jakes pitched five innings, only giving up two hits and no runs. Jakes also generated eight strikeouts.

For the Panthers, Ty Cohen started on the mound. Cohen pitched six innings, and gave up seven hits, five runs, and had two strikeouts in his third loss of the season. Appearances on the hill were also made by Jake Lane and Rhett Willis. Willis ended the game pitching the last two innings, allowing only one hit to go along with three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• It was the Panthers who would strike first for the second consecutive game. They were able to put up one run in the bottom of the second inning, as well as the third to take a 2-0 lead.

• The Tars didn't let the Panthers lead last long, as they stormed back in the top of the fourth. A Peter Nicoletto double got the Tars going, he then scored off of a Christopher Corbett triple. The Tars were able to score an additional two runs and take the lead 3-2.

• Building on their one run lead, the Tars scored two more runs in the top of the fifth. An Isaiah Russell single got things started for the Tars, he was the brought home by Nicoletto, who was then brought home by Corbett again after a RBI groundout, Tars then led 5-2.

• A Nick Breen three-shot home run in the top of the eighth inning put the Tars almost out of reach for any sort of comeback by the Panthers.

• The Panthers were not able to put any more runs on the board, and the Tars earned their 25th victory of the season, 8-2.
