SET-UP:
Rollins travels to the west coast with a two match winning
streak. The Tars will face stiff competition, matching up against
three nationally ranked opponents in California. Rollins will hope
to retain their form from a hard fought 5-4 win over No. 36
Embry-Riddle, and a dominant, 8-1, victory over Wayne
State.
TRACKING THE TARS:
Teresa
Kaiser holds the Tars' top record in singles play, going 9-2
for Rollins on the year. The sophomore has played out of both the
fifth and sixth positions. Savanna
Fuller has earned a 6-4 mark on the season, going 4-4 in the
fifth spot, and a perfect 2-0 in the the third. Overall, Rollins
is slightly below the .500 mark in singles play, amassing a 31-35
record as a squad.
Fuller and Kaiser have teamed up to create a dominating pairing
in the third doubles position, the two have gone 7-2 on the year to
lead all Rollins teams. The partnership of Shannon
Etten and Carlye
Goldman has emerged in the Tars recent two match winning
streak, the pair has gone 2-0 in the contests.
TRACKING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Cal State-Los Angeles will host the Tars coming off a
convincing 7-2 victory over Concordia-Irvine. However, prior to
the win The Golden Eagles had dropped two in row to UC San Diego
and Cal State-Northridge.
Kayleigh Hall leads Cal State-Los Angeles on the year. The
senior has been tabbed as the No. 42 singles player in Division II,
and has earned a 7-3 record on the year, playing primarily out of
the second position. Nozomi Matsuoka entered the year as the No.
12 player in the west region, but has struggled, going just 3-7 out
of the first position. Elizaveta Sokolova and Luciana Di Laura
also found themselves ranked among the west region's best singles
players. The two have gone 6-4 and 8-1 on the year
respectively.
Hall and Matsuoka pair up to form a dangerous doubles
combination. The two are ranked as the 10th best pair
in Division II, and have amassed a 9-2 record out of the first
doubles position. Sokolova and Di Laura were ranked as the No. 7
pair in the west region, and have gone 8-3 on the year, primarily
out of the third position.
TRACKING THE TRITONS:
UC-San Diego has earned a 10-1 record on the year, with
their only loss coming to Division I opponent Georgetown. The
Tritons have taken down five ranked opponents so far in 2017.
The Tritons have maintained a fairly constant line-up through
their first 11 matches. Britta Mosser, who is ranked No. 13 in the
west region singles rankings, is 6-5 on the year out of the number
one spot. Jasmine Hosseini earned the west's No. 14 ranking, and
has gone 8-3 out of the fourth position for UC-San Diego.
Alexandra Well is a perfect 11-0 out of the fifth position.
The Tritons have only used three teams in doubles play through
the year. Ashley Chao and Becky Chou are 9-2 out of the second
position, while Madison Hale and Well are 10-1 in the third spot.
Overall, the Tritons are 20-11 in doubles play.
UC-San Diego faces off with No. 23 Sonoma State on Sunday,
before dueling with Rollins on Tuesday.
TRACKING THE SEA LIONS:
Point Loma dominated Dominican 8-1 last time out, ending a
two match losing streak. The Sea Lions opened the year winning six
of seven, but have lost three of five since.
Nikki Newell is the top singles player for Point Loma. The
junior has climbed the national rankings to the No. 25 spot, and
has played exclusively out of the first position for the Sea Lions,
going 6-5 on the year. Regina Van Koch has amassed an 11-1 singles
mark, including going a spotless 8-0 in the second position. The
Sea Lions are 47-25 as a team is single player action.
Newell and Van Koch pair up in doubles play, forming the No. 23
team in the country. The two have earned a 7-4 doubles record on
the year, playing out of the number one spot. Shelby Groeneveld
and Michelle Torres form the west region's No. 6 pair and have gone
7-3 on the year, 6-3 out of the second position.
Point Loma faces Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday before their showdown
with the Tars on Wednesday.
NEXT:
The Tars return home to close out their non-conference
schedule for the year. Rollins will face off against Wet Virginia
State on Tuesday, March 21, and Division I Murray State on
Wednesday, March 22.
