WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2017) - The Tars
used a balanced effort to silence the Mount Olive Trojans, taking
both games of a Thursday night double-header. With the wins the
Tars move to 17-9 on the year. Mount Olive falls to 12-16 with the
pair of defeats.
The Tars got solid pitching performances in both games. Both Sarah
Piening and Grace
Street went the distance and surrendered only one combined
earned run. On offense the Tars got timely hitting; a trio of Tars
recorded multiple RBI in game one, and Brianne
Lint came up big in game two, driving in three runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One
· The Trojans jumped out to an early lead,
taking advantage of an early Rollins error to grab a 1-0 lead.
However, the Tars would not let that stand for long. In the bottom
of the first Abigail
Sexton got the Tars on the board with a two out, RBI, single,
driving home Chelsea
Reed. Rachel
Minier then tallied the first of her three hits on the game, a
two RBI double down the left field line.
· Rollins extended their lead in the second when Hailee
Keisling sent a ball over the wall in right field, making the
score 4-1.
· Mount Olive would pull one run back in the fourth,
but the Tars would ice the game away, putting up crooked numbers in
both the fifth and sixth frames. Sarah
Harrison slapped a two RBI triple in the fifth, and the Tars
manufactured three runs in the sixth.
· Sarah
Piening retired the Trojans in order in the seventh, including
striking out Kelsey Hayes to clinch the contest for Rollins.
Game Two
· Mount Olive jumped out to an early lead,
again scoring a run in the top of the first. But, again, Rollins
would pull back, scoring a run of their own in the bottom of the
frame. Kacie
Booth reached on a bunt single, advanced on a Chelsea
Reed double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Abigail
Sexton.
· The Tars waited until fourth to jump out on top. Tayler
Holt started the rally with a single to right field, then Hali
Marshall made it two runners on with a bunt single. Holt then
came around to score when a Hailee
Keisling grounder hit off the glove of the Trojans' shortstop.
Brianne
Lint came to plate later in the inning, with the bases loaded,
and cleared the field with a three RBI double, making the score 5-1
in favor of the Tars.
· Mount Olive pulled one run back in the sixth when
Kayla Allen homered to center field. The Trojans' centerfielder
came up again in the seventh, with two runners on base, but this
time Grace
Street got her to fly out to left field to end the ball
game.
