SET-UP:
Riding a 12-game winning streak into the postseason,
Rollins hosts Florida Tech Wednesday in the 2017 Sunshine State
Conference Quarterfinals. The Tars tied for second in the final SSC
standings and are the third-seed by way of a coin-flip against
second-seed Florida Southern. Rollins took both meetings against
Tech earlier in the season, by five in Melbourne and nine at home.
The Panthers finished the regular season 13-13 and as the six-seed
in the conference tournament. Tech won two in a row and three of
its last five to close the regular season slate. Rollins is 12-4 in
Warden Arena this season while Florida Tech is 4-10 away from home,
including a 2-1 mark in Winter Park.
TRACKING THE TARS:
Marie
Gilbert leads the Tars with 11.0 points a game and is coming
off a 17-point senior day against Saint Leo. She is also pulling
down 4.5 rebounds a night and is shooting 82 percent at the free
throw line. Julia Inlger is getting 10.0 points a game and leads
the Tars at the stripe, hitting 87 percent. Carly
McLendon averages 8.7 points, 6.6 rebounds a game and shoots 59
percent from the field. The sophomore is 10th in the
nation in blocks per game and 12th in total blocks. She
has set the Tars single season school record with 72 swats on the
year. Rollins is averaging 67.1 points a game and is allowing just
59.3 a night. The Tars are the top-rebounding team in the SSC with
a plus-7.8 margin.
TRACKING THE PANTHERS:
DeLise Williams leads the Florida Tech offense with 11.0
points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists a game. Julie McCarthy is
getting 9.6 points and a team-best 8.4 rebounds a night after
pointing a double-double against PBA with 13 points and 11
rebounds. Tereza Sedlakova is averaging 6.7 points a game. The
Panthers offense is putting up 63.0 points and allowing 62.4 points
a game.
NOTES:
Rollins leads the all-time series with Florida Tech 52-22
and has won its last 11 in a row over FIT. They last met in a
defensive battle in Winter Park with the Tars winning 59-50. Jasmine
Stone scored 11 for the Tars while DeLise Williams scored 11
for Tech.
All-time, Rollins is 47-28 in the SSC Tournament, including a
21-4 mark in the quarterfinals.
Rollins is 6-9 all-time as the No. 3 seed and 8-4 all-time
against FIT in the SSC Tournament.
Rollins has bowed out of the SSC Tournament in the quarterfinals
each of the last two seasons.
Rollins 12 game winning streak is its longest since rolling off
14 straight from Nov. 12, 2011 to Jan. 14, 2012.
Rollins sat third in the latest NCAA Division II South Region
ranking.
