ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (February 4, 2017) -
Rollins held Sunshine State Conference leader Eckerd to its lowest
scoring game of the season and posted a 69-54 upset of the
16th-ranked Tritons on the road Saturday.
The win is the Tars' seventh in a row and improves their record to
15-6 overall and 9-4 in SSC play. Eckerd lost at home for the first
time this season and falls to 18-4, 11-2 in conference.
Carly
McLendon filled the boxscore with 14 points, 12 rebounds, three
assists and two blocks. The sophomore shot 5-of-7 from the field
and 4-of-6 at the free throw line and didn't commit a turnover in
29 minutes of play. Marie
Gilbert led the Tars with 15 points and six rebounds.
Ashley Folsom was the lone Triton to score in double figures with
10 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds. Victoria Vine, Anna
Deegan and Chelsea Johnson each scored nine.
Rollins dominated the glass, outrebounding Eckerd 51-30, including
21-11 on the offensive end.
Rollins will head into the final three weeks of the season just two
games out of first place in the league standings and a half game
out of second.

HIGHLIGHTS AND QUARTER-BY-QUARTER ANALYSIS
First Quarter l A Jasmine
Stone three-pointer and McLendon bucket quickly gave Rollins a
5-0 lead to start. Eckerd then got going and came back to post a
15-12 advantage with 4:12 left in the quarter. Rollins was able to
slightly cut into the lead and trailed 16-14 after one.
Second Quarter l Gilbert tied the score on the Tars first
possession and sparked 13-3 run to put Rollins ahead 27-19 at the
4:59 mark. The Tritons ended the half on a run of their own and
closed Rollins advantage to 29-26 at intermission.
Third Quarter l Rollins came out of the locker room and
took control of the game with an 11-0 run to start the third. Four
different players scored for Rollins during the spurt as EC went
0-for-5 from the field with three turnovers. The Tars kept the
pressure on and their lead ballooned to 46-28 with 2:34 left in the
period. Eckerd scored two baskets late as Rollins took a 46-33 lead
into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter l The final quarter proved to be a free
throw shooting contest with the teams combining for 29 attempts in
the frame. Eckerd was 7-of-10 and Rollins 13-of-19 at the stripe.
Over the final two minutes, Rollins went 9-of-12 to seal the win.
The Tars never let Eckerd any closer than 12 and led by as many as
16 late.
