WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 15, 2017) - There
was not much separating the Tars and the Saints in Rollins first
competitive match of the Spring season. But, Flagler managed a few
more plays, edging the Tars 5-4 on Wednesday evening. With the
loss Rollins opens the year 0-1, while Flagler moves to 3-2 in
their 2017 campaign.
The Tars led 2-1 after doubles play. Ahmed
Albitar and Daniel
Ferl defeated Willy Hasselberg and Luca Bolla, 8-5, while Francesco
Racanelli and Ziad
Melhaoui upended Konstantin Dustmann and Daniel Arrien, 9-7.
Patrick
Sell and Sami
Kirberg, who entered the match ranked as the No. 2 doubles
pairing in the south fell to Lukas Storck and Felipe Carvalho.
Flagler rebounded from the deficit to win four of the six
singles matches. Sell captured a victory out of the first position
for the Tars, besting Storck, the No. 18 player in the southeast,
by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Melhaoui took the other Tars win,
defeating Charley Castaing 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. The Tars held a 4-3 lead
with Racanelli and Kirberg both immersed in three set battles, but
Flagler managed to capture both matches to grab the victory.
Rollins turns around quickly. The Tars return to the court
tomorrow, February 16, when they will host Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Play will get underway at 3 p.m. at the Tiedtke Tennis Courts.
