BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 11, 2017) - Rollins
surrendered just 16 second half points and rolled to its ninth
straight win, beating Lynn 61-50 on the road Saturday. The Tars
trailed by three at the half, but quickly erased the deficit with a
big third quarter.
Carly
McLendon posted her third double-double of the season, totaling
12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way. Marie
Gilbert scored 12 points to go along with five rebounds, three
blocks and three steals.
Paola Vazquez scored a game-high 18 to pace Lynn. Shaunt'e Tucker
chipped in nine points and 11 rebounds.
The victory keeps Rollins (17-6, 11-4 Sunshine State Conference) in
the hunt for the conference championship. Eckerd leads the way at
13-2 while Florida Southern sits 11-3 in conference play. Three
games remain in the season for the Tars.
Rollins next hosts Barry in Winter Park on Wednesday, February 15
at 5:30 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS AND QUARTER-BY-QUARTER ANALYSIS
First Quarter l Rollins fell into an early 7-0 hole, but
finally got rolling and took a 10-9 lead midway through the first.
The hot streak abruptly ended as the Tars missed its next five
shots and committed four turnovers, allowing Lynn to grab a 20-12
advantage after the first 10 minutes.
Second Quarter l The Tars played uphill the entire second
quarter, tying the score five times, but were never able to grab
the lead. Rollins trailed 34-31 at the half.
Third Quarter l Rollins defense flexed its muscles in the
third, holding the Fighting Knights to just 2-of-17 shooting and
forcing five turnovers. Gilbert drained a three-pointer at the 6:02
mark to finally put the Tars ahead 38-35. After a Lynn answer to
tie the score, Tianna
Rosser put Rollins ahead for good as the Tars went on to take a
46-40 lead after the third.
Fourth Quarter l Rollins used a 12-2 run to start the
fourth to pull away. The Tars led 58-42 with 3:51 to play and would
let Lynn not closer than 11 the rest of the game.
