CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 10, 2017) - Rollins
split two games during the first day of the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association Division II Leadoff Classic. In their first
action the Tars defeated Tiffin University, then in their second
game Rollins fell victim to a late comeback by the West Chester
Rams.
The Tars opened play with a 4-2 victory over Tiffin. Rollins
jumped out to 3-0 lead, before hanging on late to defeat the
Dragons. In their second contest of the day Rollins mounted a
comeback and took a 4-2 lead into the seventh frame. West Chester
then put up four runs in their final at bat to take a lead they
would not surrender.
With one victory on the day, Rollins moves to 3-3 on the year.
Tiffin ended the day 0-2, after falling to the Tars and the Rams.
West Chester upended the Dragons in their first game, finishing the
day 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One
· After three scoreless innings the the Tars
took the lead in the fourth inning. Abigail
Sexton slapped a two out single, and was driven home by Kacie
Booth.
· The Tars added a pair of runs in the fifth. Rachel
Minier singled with two runners on, sending Hali
Marshall across the plate. Hailee
Keisling scored the second run of the inning, finding her way
home on a wild pitch.
· Rollins got an important insurance run in the seventh
when Tayler
Holt scored on a Sexton sacrifice fly.
· The Dragons sent a pair across the plate in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Sarah
Piening got out of a bases loaded jam by getting Kate-Lynn Urgo
to pop out to right field.
· The Tars had opportunities to put the game away,
leaving nine runners on base to the Dragons five, but Piening still
managed to keep Tiffin at bay, allowing only three hits over seven
innings
Game Two
· West Chester jumped out to the early lead,
scoring a run in the top of the first frame.
· The Rams grew their advantage to 2-0 in the top of
the fourth, but then in the bottom of the frame Rollins tied the
score at 2-2. Sarah

Booth with a single toward third base.
· The Tars took their first lead in the fifth when
reigning SSC Player of the Week Brianne
Lint lifted the ball over the left field wall, bringing home Rachel
Minier, and giving Rollins the 4-2 advantage.
· West Chester pulled ahead in their final at bat,
manufacturing four runs in the seventh. The Tars threatened in the
bottom of the seventh, getting a pair of runners on base, but were
unable to push anyone across the plate.
· The Tars got out of a pair of bases loaded jams in
the ball game. Street induced a fly out in the second to get out of
the inning. Then in the fourth Hailee
Keisling made an unassisted double play on a line out to first
base.
· Rollins outhit the Rams 9-8, but the Tars left 10
runners on base.

Street struck out eight West Chester batters, while the Tars
only went down on strikes twice.

NOTES:
· Brianne
Lint's homerun against West Chester was her second of the year,
halfway to her total from all of last season.
· With one run against Tiffin Hailee
Keisling is now tied for third in Rollins history in runs
scored.
· Rollins is now 1-0 all-time against Tiffin.
· This was the Tars first loss against West Chester,
Rollins is now 4-1 against the Rams.
· Hali
Marshall has hit safely in every game of the Tars season so
far, giving her a six game hit streak.

Frew is now 745-304-1 at the helm of the Rollins Softball
program.
NEXT:
The Tars continue the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a pair of games
tomorrow. Rollins will battle No. 10 Wayne State at 3:00 p.m.
before turning their attention to the Central Missouri Jennies at
5:30.
