Tars End Year with Loss Against Panthers

FINAL SCORE:
Rollins (4-9-2, 3-5-2 SSC) – 0
Florida Tech (7-6-2, 3-4-3 SSC) – 1

MELBOURNE, Fla. (October 25, 2017) – Rollins could not find a result on the road against Florida Tech, ending the Tars' hopes of a Sunshine State Conference Tournament berth.  Rollins falls to 4-9-2 overall and 3-5-2 in SSC play.  The Panthers improve to 7-6-2 overall, and 3-4-3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half: Both teams came out of the gates attacking, creating chances in the first period of play.  The Panthers outshot the Tars 12-5 in the half.  Rollins put three shots on goal, while Kelly Rowswell was forced into five first half saves.  Florida Tech hit the woodwork once, bouncing a 13th minute shot off the crossbar.  The Tars earned one corner kick, while the Panthers took two in first 45 minutes.

Second Half: The Panthers peppered the Tars net to open the second half, but Rowswell was up to the task to start the period.  It took until the 70 minute mark for the Florida Tech to break through.  A Kellie Krygier shot from the top of the box made its way threw a crowd of people, off the inside of the post, and into the net, giving the Panthers 1-0 lead.  Rollins threw numbers forward for the rest of the contest, but could not find the equalizer, falling 1-0.

NOTES:

  • The Tars are now 13-7-3 all time against the Panthers.
  • With the loss the Tars drop to seventh in the SSC.
  • Kelly Rowswell ends the year with 79 saves, second highest total in the SSC.
  • Head Coach Alicia Schuck currently sits at 87-30-9 in her 7th season at the helm of the Rollins women's soccer program.
