WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 24, 2017) – The Tars found themselves down early after conceding a goal to Florida Tech in the third minute, but ultimately turned the momentum of the game around in the second half, coming out on top of the Panthers, 4-2. The Tars have clinched an SSC tournament bid, and will await other results to decide their tournament seeding.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half: The Panthers wasted no time putting the Tars backline under pressure, and found the back of the net just three minutes into the match. It was the Tars who would settle down and regain their composure to tie the game up at one a piece in the 36th minute. A Fritz Engel free-kick forced a save out of Florida Tech's Luuk Teurlinx, where Ben Grant was able to control the rebound, and slide it past the keeper to tie the game with ten minutes to play in the half. Rollins attempted six first half shots to the Panthers five, and forced two saves out of the Panthers keeper.
Second Half: Once again, it was Florida Tech who was able to net the go-ahead goal in the opening minutes of the second half, to take the lead 2-1. However just three minutes later, the Tars would answer with a goal of their own. A Tristin Johnson corner kick found a streaking James Winchester at the top of the six-yard box, and he was able to head the ball home to even the score, 2-2. Rollins continued to look for their first lead of the night, and it finally came in the 64th minute, when James Crowley ripped a shot from the top of the box, forcing the Panthers keeper into another save. The rebound would once again pop out and find a pouncing Stefan Avram, who would slot it home into the bottom corner to take the lead, 3-2. It was Avram wreaking havoc once again, when the junior would find himself one on one with the Panthers goalie, who made the save on Avram's original shot but the rebound would fall to Avrams's feet and he was able to lift the ball over the keeper and into the net for the Tars insurance goal with 21 minutes left to play. It was now up to the Tars defense to hold the lead, and they were up for the task, as the game would finish 4-2 in favor of the Tars.
Notes:
- The Tars are now 29-16-4 all-time against the Panthers
